Porcelain material is more often a better choice over other comparable tile materials such as ceramics. When it comes to tiles made from glazed porcelain, Weeki Wachee residents should know that these types are typically thinner, denser, and less porous than that of other ceramic tiles. Being that porcelain tiles are a much better option when compared to ceramic tiles, it is still important to note that porcelain tiles come in many shapes and sizes. For example, the biggest problem that people have when choosing between different porcelain tiles is if they want to go with glazed or unglazed tiles for their home.
Unglazed Porcelain Tiles
Unglazed porcelain tiles are made by the same process tiles made from glazed porcelain. Weeki Wachee residents might not know that porcelain tiles are made through tightly pressing multiple types of materials such as clay and silica, and then heating them at really high temperatures in a kiln. Once the tiles have had time to cool down, they are nearly ready to be turned into tiles that can be used on walls, on floors, and in some cases inside of pools if they are treated right. Because unglazed tiles are not treated with another coat of something like glazed tiles are, they tend to break more than glazed ones, and they also seem to take on more staining than usual.
Glazed Porcelain Tiles
Like unglazed porcelain tiles, Glazed porcelain tiles are heated at a high temperature in a kiln and are set aside for another process of firing. They undergo another kiln treatment where a layer of liquid glasses is added to the tile to make it a tile of glazed porcelain. Weeki Wachee residents should know that glazed tiles tend to be better at stopping moisture and staining from reaching the tile. Even though the glaze is better at stopping these issues, it should be noted that glazed porcelain tiles are often thinner than unglazed tiles because the extra layer of glass goes on them.
